Report from Ukraine, by Maria Ivanova, Academy of Direct Democracy "Direct democracy is often not understood, much less considered a priority, by the citizens of the Eastern European country, Ukraine. Most of the citizens are deeply engaged in their everyday problems and care about politics only when it forces them to interfere and fight for their rights." |

World's most gerrymandered district? 200 miles
long; mostly less than 5 miles wide. |
Interview with Shakari Byerly, Co-Author of Redrawing Lines "
California voters are not happy
with their legislature. And they certainly have specific
issues,
perhaps most centrally the lack of a healthy budget process.
But CA
voters know that in order for them to have a voice on any issues, the
legislature must be accountable. If incumbency means a
lifetime term
the voters will never be heard. I don’t see
redistricting going away
as a major issue." |

Victoria Koblenko (AKA
The Red Vamp),
Signs on to the European Citizen's Initiative |
The European Citizen's Initiative (ECI) The European Constitution included a direct democracy provision. However, the Constitution was withdrawn after it was voted down in a couple of countries and was headed for defeat in others. CitizenPowerMagazine.net discusses a new campaign in Europe to bring about a direct democracy process throughout the European Union. While of course you're only visiting this site for political education, we nevertheless provide (strictly in the public interest) a direct link to The Red Vamp who is the 'ambassador' for the ECI in the Netherlands |
