" California voters are not happy with their legislature.  And they certainly have specific issues, perhaps most centrally the lack of a healthy budget process.  But CA voters know that in order for them to have a voice on any issues, the legislature must be accountable.  If incumbency means a lifetime term the voters will never be heard.  I don’t see redistricting going away as a major issue."

The European Citizen's Initiative (ECI) 

The European Constitution included a direct democracy provision.  However, the Constitution was withdrawn after it was voted down in a couple of countries and was headed for defeat in others.   CitizenPowerMagazine.net discusses a new campaign in Europe to bring about a direct democracy process throughout the European Union.
